Our practice has a long history of giving back to the community of Boca Raton and surrounding areas. Annually, Dr. Statler and staff walk in the Fight for the Cure Breast Cancer Walk in Boca Raton and help raise money for this important charity.
At our annual Patient Appreciation Day in December and through our new FeedBoca project, we collected 2,804 pounds of food which is the equivalent of providing 93 families with a full week's worth of groceries. FeedBoca, a more comprehensive appeal to the community to support our food drive, produced 589 pounds of food from collection at Verde Elementary School. Boca Helping Hands was our partner in the FeedBoca project. Thanks to our wonderful patients and friends at Verde Elementary, we were able to make the New Year a little brighter for those less fortunate in our community.
Annually, we participate in a morale-boosting effort of sending candy to our troops overseas. The candy is donated in November by our generous patients. This past year, we sent 15 large boxes to deployed servicemen and women through Operation Military Pride. Dr. Statler served in the Navy for 6 years and was Department Head of a 50-person dental care facility, so this charity is very close to her heart. She separated from the service with the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 2005 but still maintains close ties with her fellow military service members.
Because many of our patients are of school-age, our primary charitable focus is on local schools. During the school year, we sponsor oral hygiene programs in elementary classes throughout the community. We also honor our local teachers by making them the focus of two major contests that we run in our office annually. We regularly donate to school auctions to raise much needed money for the schools and their programs that directly benefit the students. We are thankful for the excellent schools and teachers we have in our area, and we do everything we can to support them.
We have on staff a special community outreach member who frequently sets up an educational booth promoting good dental habits at Health and Science Fairs held at schools and children's museums. We look for every opportunity to help our young people to learn to take good care of their teeth.
Because we believe organized youth sports are an excellent way for a child to stay healthy, we sponsor a number of teams in local children's sports leagues.
We are proud of our community involvement and plan to continue this effort for many years to come!
