Minimizing X-Ray Exposure

You may have seen or heard about the recent NY Times article entitled “Radiation Worries for Children in Dentists’ Chairs”.

According to the examination and report done by the NY Times, the cone beam CT scanner (used by orthodontists who have the unit) emits “significantly more radiation than conventional methods” without giving a significant increase in information.
We wanted you to know that we do have access to a cone-beam CT scanner but do not use it except when warranted in very special cases. We do not use “computer customized braces”  because most of them require cone beam scans. Instead we choose to use Indirect Bonding which helps to provide similar treatment results and fast treatment time.

In our office, your safety and that of your child is always our concern.

Indirect Bonding – A Distinctly Better Way

Our practice utilizes an indirect bonding technique for most of our cases. What does that mean and why do we do it that way? Simply put – because it’s distinctly better for the patient.

Precision models of the patient’s teeth are created. Dr. Statler then places brackets on the model using digital cephalometrics and the panorex for proper angulation. Custom trays are fabricated from this accurate set up and delivered to the patient one full arch at a time.

The advantages of this method over “direct” bonding (placing one bracket at a time) is that it’s faster and more comfortable for the patient, with a higher level of precision, better bond strength and greatly increased accuracy.

This highly accurate technique allows us to serve our patients in the most efficient, predictable, successful and safe way.

Self-Ligating Brackets

The bracket systems we use in our office allow teeth to move more quickly, easily and comfortably because they are free of ties or elastics that can slow down tooth movement. Using light and gentle forces, the path to a beautiful smile is easier than you ever thought possible!
